The Library of E. F. Shmurlo
The library of the Russian historian Evgenii Frantsevich Shmurlo (1854–1934) comprises approximately 6,000 volumes in Russian, Italian, French, German, Polish and other languages. The core of the collection deals with Peter the Great and his time as well as Russian relations with Western Europe.
The library contains i.a. I. I. Golikov’s multi-volume work Deianiia Petra Velikogo, mudrogo preobrazitelia Rossii in the original edition from 1788–1789, including the eighteen-volume Dopolneniie from 1790–1797, which was the first systematic treatment of the history of Peter’s rule and, until the middle of the 19th century, the only serious source for historians dealing with that period.
