Printed music published in Prague in the 19th century

The display presents music publishing in Prague in the 19th century and its role in the then Prague music life. It features local publishers, engravers and lithographers, as well as the used printing techniques. Its name refers to the statement of Václav Jan Tomášek, one of the eminent Czech composers of the first half of the 19th century.The exhibition will take visitors through a century that is the most interesting and most dynamic period in terms of the almost six-hundred history of printed music.
Displayed are printed musical scores of compositions by both well-known composers and the unknown ones that were created by all printing techniques used at that period, many of them provided with unique graphic decoration.
The exhibition was prepared by the Music Department of the National Library of the CR on the occasion of the IAML Congress (The International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres), organized in Prague from 24 July to 29 July, 2022 in the National Library of the CR and the Municipal Library of Prague.

The Secret of Books
3 June – 3 September 2022
Presentation of results of professional research of manuscripts and printed books using special recording devices and light sources as well as X-rays. It is focused mainly on examples of image records of elements hidden in bookbinding or in the used book materials. It presents visualizations of information invisible to the naked eye.
The exhibition has been organized as the main result of NAKI II Project of the Ministry of Culture of the CR entitled Use of Imaging Techniques For the Study of Hidden Information In Bookbinding.

Roots of Prominent Personalities
1 – 30 June, 2022
An outdoor exhibition of photographs features a unique project of the Prague Botanical Garden Roots of Prominent Personalities. The project, connected with outstanding personalities, draws attention to rare and endangered plants and the world´s plant wealth. The idea originated in the cooperation of the Prague Botanical Garden with Darina Miklovičová in 2009. By means of photographs, the visitors of the National Library and tourists walking through the Klementinum area will get acquainted with famous people of science, sports, culture and the public life, who joined the project in last thirteen years. Among them, we should mention for instance president Václav Havel, Czech film directors Miloš Forman and Jiří Menzel, singer Karel Gott or travellers Miroslav Zikmund and Jiří Hanzelka.

Codex 1085 – The Manuscript in Detail

The exhibition features works of the students of the Graphic School in Prague, specialized in Conservation and Restoration program. Education also includes the production of facsimiles of medieval illuminated manuscript and artificial copies of historical bookbindings.
Displayed are copies of folios of the Codex of Vyšehrad, a very rare manuscript related to the Czech history, kept in the collections of the National Library of the CR. A facsimile copy of the codex will be available to visitors for browsing through it.
