Exhibit of the Month
December 2019
A new exhibition cycle, prepared the Manuscript and Early Printed Books Department, started in autumn 2019. Each month, one original historical document from the National Library´s collections is presented to the public in the vestibule of the General Reading Room. In December, it is Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, a groundbreaking cartographic work published by Abraham Ortelius (1527–1598) in Antwerp in 1570, which is the first atlas in the modern sense of meaning.
